Hmaly, <And I must admit that I have been slow on the uptake, when Al and Ted have stated that Europe fears the US more than they fear Saddam.

I haven't said it. They have. The Europeans that is. There is little point hiding behind the presumed special interests the politicians in France and Russia and Germany may have in avoiding war in Iraq...nor is there any point in the contempt you have all shown for that, since you have repeated many times that the US acts in its own interests all the time. The common person in Europe (and the world) reacts to gut revulsion of the war for its violence and destruction, not material interests.

Me too. It makes a lot more sense now, despite the severe denial that I think still affects lots of Europeans out there.

Read above.

I guess the question now isn't one of if, but when. Some are still predicting war this month. Is that likely, or will Bush wait it out even longer?

I guess it's pointless to remind you all that this is likely to change the political landscape for Europe and the world for many years to come. If the US war remains unpopular, there are likely to be many Shroeders around the world coming to elected power on the strenght of US opposition.
