I am shaking my head in disbelief. I just watched the last 15 minutes of a BBC documentary, airing on CBC Newsworld, "After Saddam". It's anti-Americanism was shocking to me and I see a fair amount of it up here in the very frigid north. The tone was conspiratorial. "Sure they say Saddam has WMD but we all really know it's about American oil company profits". Not just the "It's All about Oil" but the crazy American oil company profits version of it. What oil company wants the risks of war. It boggles the mind.

The juciest part was when a member of the Iraqi opposition (called the Club of 65 to add weight to the conspiracy theory) was quoted at Davos, having just met with Gen. Wesley Clark, saying "General Clark said the US Army would be in Iraq for eight years". They forgot to mention that General Clark is a Democrat considering running for President against George Bush and as such probably doesn't know the administration position but probably would be willing to frame them in a harsh light.

The BBC have learned their Chomsky very well. One could call their campaign 'Manufacturing Dissent'. Sadly, these ideas are taking hold in England and in Canada.
