Bill:
I am having trouble seeing the whole picture, but its being added to one frame at a time.
Airbases in Bulgaria, B-52's into the act, another 60k troops to the area, 6 Carriers with support.
French Mirages and British Vampires overflying Iraq.
Presidents Bush's words, A War on Terrorists, coming from a Government that supports the IRS, the INS, the FHA,and other institutions that typically moved with such lighting speed in the past.
I rather expected it might take a few years or so just to get a plan ready.
Now we find 300,000 well trained and equipped troops coming like out of nowhere, because of past decisions to keep our military operations under such a low profile they practically disappeared
Plus a plentiful supply of smart bombs, B-2's, chemical garb, and inoculations
THERE IS SOMETHING REAL SERIOUS GOING ON.
The status quo is kaput in the UN, in base assignments in Europe, in alignments among Nations
The INS, the FBI, the CIA, all needed to be shaken up, awakened to the new threats and they have been.
The action taken to date has proved invaluable, stopping plots like that planned for Hawaii which we did not even hear about, shutting off Al Quaedas money flow, sharing surveillance info with other countries.
Yesterdays bombing in the Philippines helps prove how wrong the protestors are in their attempts to paralyze
the Governments actions. Shouting Peace is an American right, but interfering with the the life of a city or the
actions of Government agencies is taking away the rights of others
In regard to our Foreign relationships and a post-Iraq era, we are not the only policeman and organizer in town.
Other countries will have their say , as France and Germany and Turkey and the people of Iraq.
Turkey will decide one way or the other, and we will adjust to fit their decision with nothing shoved down their throats. France has already made their decision , for better or worse, we will adjust to live with what they chose
and they can do the same.
It was probably past time to shift troops in Germany closer to where they seem needed, and provide a fresh
environment and facilities more in-line with recent military base concepts So a Veto by Germany could just provide a good excuse to expedite the move.
This is not a one way street with the US getting the better of all the deals, the US has to do more far adjusting than than other countries do.
Europe wants to lie there like a sleepy old dog and hope the threats dont come their way
A swift kick would help get them moving too.
