My own strategy is to look for growth opportunities (e.g., wireless telecom equipment and military/civilian aircraft components) where the companies involved have strong balance sheets and seasoned management. Even in a recession, not ALL companies do badly. In fact, a recession often forces businesses to become more efficient, and in so doing, to buy equipment and services that improve the bottom line.
