I loved VMS and DEC's Engineering Excellence but... The company I work for was formed by Ex-DECies and there are a lot of close informal ties with DEC. Palmer HAD to make this quarter work, and DEC pulled out all the stops. I shorted it as much as I could the other day, and I sleep VERY well at night with that decision. Also some other problems for DEC 1. Intel and HP working on a 64 bit CPU. Where will DEC be when this product is ready for Intel's marketing might? 2. Downward margin pressure on PCs by the likes of Dell, Compaq, Gateway, etc. 3. PC's just don't bring in licencing and maintenance fees like mainframes. I wish long holders best of luck. DEC was once a great company, but I lost respect for the company when Palmer tried to kill VMS. Ken
