I personally know a family who won green card lottery, came to US (California) and applied to welfare on their second day in US. They had a 16 year old son so they were receiving full welfare including medical until he hit 18. Along with welfare they were receiving good rent subsidy. During this time they worked for cash.
If only American taxpayers knew how their tax dollars were used!
