After two and half years of financial maneuvering, Amkor Technology Inc. finally seems to be free of Korean-based Anam Semiconductor Inc.
Chandler, Ariz.-based Amkor today said it has sold its wafer fabrication services business to ASI for a total price of $62 million. Amkor has been restructuring its interest in ASI in order to better focus on its core competency of assembly and test.

Necessary to the sale, Amkor has also obtained releases from key customers regarding its contractual obligation to perform wafer fabrication services subsequent to the transfer of the business to ASI.

“The sale of our wafer fabrication services business is a key step in Amkor’s strategy to monetize our interest in Anam, and it reaffirms our commitment to enhance our financial liquidity and focus resources on our core assembly and test business,” said James Kim, Amkor’s chairman and CEO, in a statement.
