Although I am of limited technical knowledge on MPEG encoding/decoding, intuitively I think you make some good points...what is purchased with a versatile but fixed MPEG-2 chip is the hard-wiring or permancy of all functions; there is no need for tuning or modifications; no artificial intelligence or random noise component; simply, a fixed, although complex, formula. There is a hundred companies with the technical know-how to come up with an adequate MPEG-2 chip. BUT WHO HAS IT NOW....AND WHO HAS THE BEST...the market will answer this over the next six months... and if was buying I wouldn't be asking what can you do...but what do you have...were going to town this Christmas...no time left for talk...show me the money
