It sure would be nice to see some graphs or figures for the 1970s that would support the assertion that the price of natural gas came close to $10 at that time.

Even when the 1970s prices are converted to 1996 dollars (in the column labeled "real") they don't get as high as $10--and my original question was whether natural gas sold as high as $10 back in the 1970s.

And then Claude Cormier said that in current dollars, it would be much more expensive, indicating that Claude also thought that "$10" meant a quote of $10, which would be about $50 now.

I realize that it is impolite to point out a mistake, and I apologize for having done so.
