Messrs. Black and Moses today also initiated coverage on Qualcomm with a "Hold" rating. In their report titled "Waiting for China", the analysts cite the company's weak penetration in this burgeoning market as a key factor in their neutral rating. With 1.3 billion people and only 15% wireless penetration, the analysts state that China presents a "huge opportunity" for companies in this space.

However, Qualcomm has only captured 2% of the existing market. Its long-term prospects are uncertain here as well, as the Chinese government has yet to name the company's CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) technology as a dominant standard for the wireless sector.
