Tim, the number of people who favor the war drops by two percent if thousands of IRAQI SOLDIERS die, for heaven's sake. I'm hard pressed to consider anyone who is not willing to support a war that kills Iraqi military a "supporter" of the war.

I think that just shows how the phrasing of the question can get a very different response. Its not just a matter of people changing their mind because of possible Iraqi military deaths, its that some (usually a lot more then 2%) of people on all sides of most issues don't really think rationally about the issue. They hear thousands of deaths and it has an emotional impact on some people. You could ask the same question but say it as "even if there where thousands of casualties in the Iraqi military..." and you would get a different percentage, and if you phrased it "even if there where heavy casualties in the Republican guard and other units that are loyal to Saddam" and you would get a third figure that differs from the first two. Then if you said "even if Iraqi soldiers, who had been forced to fight by Saddam but who really just wanted to go home, died by the thousands" you would get a forth figure, even though they all involve thousands of Iraqi military casualties and any scenario the has the Iraqi military actually attempt to fight back will cause all of them to happen.
