You shorted Digital? Care to share expiration dates
and price points? I am more than a little curious.

>1. Intel and HP cpu designing

Code named Merced due late 1999 now. Here is a good little
article that points out what Digital has planned for Merced's
delayed arrival:

byte.com

"Digital will launch an even more powerful weapon in 1999 to keep the P7 Merced at bay. The 21364 (EV-7), probably coming out at a similar time as
Merced, is expected to break the 1-GHz and 100-SPECint95 barriers."

Not bad considering Merced is estimated to be a 40 SpecInt95 part
according to Michael Slater of MicroProcessor Report fame.

> 2. PC margin pressures
Yes, Dell, Gateway and Compaq aren't immune to those pressures either.
How to make money at PCs? Sell more and more and more. PCs are
brutal. Digital will more than likely pick up revenues on large
servers and Alpha based PCs with 30% margins.

> Death of VMS.

VMS ain't dead yet. In fact, VMS will be taking over Data Warehousing
and decision support on many fronts. Galaxies, WILDFIRE. WILDFIRE
may support 128 Gigabytes RAM (using Shannon's 256 CPU + 1
TByte and dividing 1 TByte / 8). That is a very high-end monster.
