Tim: The creator of that email clearly has an agenda...

I did NOT support all of Clinton's policies or all of his personal decisions (in fact, I only voted for him once)...Yet, I don't think its productive to dissect everything he did...Should he have spent more time focussing on Al Qaeda..? Yes...Did his National Security team pass on detailed info. to Bush about the threat posed by Bin Laden & Co.?..Yes...There are published reports that Bush's new administration put going after Al Qaeda on the back burner before September of 2001...Why have they resisted an independent investigation of 9/11?...IMO, this great national tragedy needs to be examined carefully and some lessons need to be learned.

I will say Clinton did work hard to control and eliminate our deficit...He also adopted a multi-lateral foreign policy that was quite effective --> he actually listened to leaders from countries around the world and built coalitions...He was quite highly regarded overseas. Look at our current president (who I'm sad to say I voted for)...Bush has let all of us down...He ran as 'a moderate' and is governing from the HARD RIGHT (unlike Reagan who ran from the right and governed from the middle)...Bush has antagonized so many of our allies and was lulled into thinking he didn't need to be an Internationalist -- that's far from true after 9/11...we need MORE global cooperation for the War on Terrorism to be really effective...The Bush Doctrine of 'pre-emptively striking' is scary if you read the fine print -- many of our Congressman and Allies are concerned it will set a dangerous presendent...When campaigning Bush talked about 'a humble foreign policy'...Why are we viewed as a bully all over the world...? I think our current president sees things in terms of black and white (or good vs. evil) BUT this world has many grey areas right now and its important to be very thoughtful before using our armed forces overseas...Right now the White House is in a diplomatic morass and may disregard the U.N. unless it gets the rubber stamping it wants for the 'elective war' it thinks it needs to have over in Iraq...Its amazing that the vast majority of the world is NOT in favor of this war...there may be other ways to contain and disarm Saddam and save A LOT of innocent lives...

Of course I haven't even mentioned how a war could drive our fragile economy back into a recession...Is it really worth it...? I'm not convinced that the president has really thought through the risks of going to war...IMO, he still HAS NOT made a strong case about why we have to go to war right now...Is there really an imminent threat...? Are North Korea and Pakistan (two Nuclear Powers) bigger weapons proliferators and bigger threats to the United States...? Lots of questions BUT very few compelling answers so far. Even Republican Senator Chuck Hagel (a highly regarded war hero) has serious reservations about going to war now -- IMO, Bush needs to listen to some of these 'realists' and not just pay attention to the NeoConservatives that have very rarely ever been out on a battle field...It will take real leadership and courage to stand down and avoid a war...Lets see if Bush is up to the task.

I appreciate your perspective and hope you will continue to post.

regards,
