with paper and pen? And envelopes and stamps?

no. not any more. i used to do that. i have
hundreds in file cabinets and boxes in the garage.
it used to take a week or two for a simple exchange.

now i use the internet. communications move at the
speed of thought (or at least as fast as we can type
and click "send").

the only paper letters i write now are to my son
in jail... and they are too few and too far between.
we talk on the telephone and that doesn't work too
well - we love with our hearts through our fingers,
not through our voices - our voices are awkward tools
for love - perhaps it would be better if we were fluent
in spanish. <g> my voice is not fluent in any language.

Is it legal? <g>

here's a passage from natalie goldberg's book "writing
down the bones" that i'm taking to my dodder for her
birthday...

"Rather than following rules, have a friendliness toward
existence. Rules were made so things won't be hurt or
abused. If you are kind, you will naturally be doing the
right thing without having to refer to legalities."

:)

all man's laws and rules could be condensed to that one
golden rule... ...have a friendliness toward existence.

there's a traffic sign that i love on the air force base
here in albuquerque just after you enter the gate.
it says, "Drive Friendly".

yer fren,

(this is my last letter tonight - off to bed
with my attorney)
