Well, the crux of the matter in the Iraq crisis is that informed policymakers throughout the world --and especially in the Arab world-- are quite aware of the war's REAL agenda. In other words, they are not in the least fooled by the US's cocky pledge to democratize the whole Middle East. The warmongers' unspoken agenda is to break the Palestinian resistance once and for all, pick a few "democratic" quislings to administer both Iraq and a Palestinian Bantustan AND keep Jerusalem under exclusive Jewish sovereignty! And I say to the American daydreamers who believe in that fantasy, "it will not work, period." Remember what happened to Anwar el-Sadat...(*) Of course, one may retort that Karzai is still alive and he, too, is a marionette imposed by the US on the Afghan people. Right, but, so far, Karzai didn't betray any-thing/body. There's no Jerusalem in Afghanistan... The Afghan crisis has always been a GEOPOLITICAL tug of war between Russia and Pakistan. Although the Russians somehow have gained a significant foothold in Afghanistan through their Northern Alliance stooges, they have not turned Islamic sanctuaries into (Orthodox) Christian dominions. But Iraq-Palestine is different: if the US endgame is to yield to Israel's refusal to share Jerusalem on a par with the Arabs then the whole enterprise of "democratizing the Arab world" is DOOMED.
