They fear that as the only superpower standing, US is prone to abuse its position, especially under Bush. So they'd rather stand firm before it becomes a big trend.

I agree somewhat with this take on the situation but would paint it as a pathetic attempt to hold on to dwindling influence in the world. Either way, it means that these countries aren't weighing the war on its own merits, but rather using it as a tool to increase their standing. I know you and I are fine with this self-interest, but I believe it would shock many who believe their countries are somehow taking the high road in the debate.
