Key reasons US wants to invade Iraq: 1.Strategic positioning in the Middle East..gets bases in Oman, Yemen,and the UAE and an occupied Iraq borders Iran, Syria, Kuwait,Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Turkey = US the dominant power there. 2. To directly engage Al Qaida and prosecute the war on terror..the US needs to be seen as a larger threat to Middle East governments than Al Qaida. 3. The least important reason..removing "weapons of mass destruction from Iraq. Bush hopes to have a quick decisive campaign..there is no way this is assured..Baghdad, with 5 million people has never been taken by force before. This is all about self interest not about liberation or removing another evil tyrant from power.
