<since the questionable election of 2000>

For a while after that election, there was a lot of talk about electoral reform, abolishing the Electoral College, standardizing voting machines, a more robust and fair oversight mechanism. All that talk petered out after a while. And, after 9/11 and the mid-term elections, it seemed Bush finally had a Mandate. If this War goes badly, however, we are going to be hearing more and more about the "illegitimate" President and his "flawed" election. How much we hear of this, will be a sensitive measure of support for the War, since the President has invested 100% of his political capital in this War.
