Dont assume Bush is or will remain so popular. Post 9-11 and Iraq War ratings are artificially inflated due to swing-voter patriotism. This will not last due to the same reason Bush Sr's popularity fell from 90% to 45%.

In several polls from November only 45% of voters have said they'll vote for Bush again. Even when his approvals are 60% or more. So even those who may approve of Bush or like him may not vote for him. Also remember Bush has no opponent yet. When you have no opponent you generally do well.

In the end, unless there's an attack on the US again, it will be "the economy stupid". And Bush's economy reeks to high hell. Much worse than his father's. Plus, that takes education, health care and general optimism with it. Down. I feel sorry for kids graduating from college these days. Not much out there.

Also the opponent will matter a lot. Kerry would make a much stronger candidate than Gore IMHO, especially with a strong moderate running mate from the south. Bush has $$$ and temporary power but may not matter in the end. Americans tear down their heros as fast as they prop them up. Look at what happened to Clinton and Bush Sr?
