Thanks for your opinion Wayne.

I have written before why I believe that we should deal with Saddam, militarily if necessary (which I think at this point it is). I have not emphasized the terrorism connection all that much because, although there seems to be some connection, it really isn't the main problem with Saddam or the main reason why we need to go after him.

But the logic that underlies your post (some of which was about what others were saying) is what troubles me. Fear that terrorists might do a bad thing to us if we take a certain course of action should absolutely not be a factor in our decision whether to take that course of action. An action is either in our interest or it is not. It is either morally and ethically correct or it is not. Acting or not acting based on what the terrorists might do to us is an admission that they are in charge, not us. I am not willing to live in a world where the terrorists are in charge, and I am proud to live in a country where my government feels the same way.

Every night I set out food. Once in awhile a cockroach might wander by and sample some of it, which means I can't eat that food. If I do nothing, the cockroach will return, and bring his friends. Should I wait for this to happen every night and then eat whatever the cockroach(es) decide to leave untouched? Should I only put out food that the cockroaches find unappetizing, even if I too don't like that food?

Or should I call the Orkin man and eradicate the cockroach so I can regain the freedom to eat whatever I want?

I find that choice easy, but then, I really like to eat.
