I am sure you HAVE pegged them for what you think they are- but you have to realize that your idea of what is anti-American is going to be very different from, say, my idea of what is anti- AMerican. I think disagreement is such a part of America, that expressing an honest point of view, about what is best, is being American. The only people who are anti- AMerican are people who are really traitors- people who sell our secrets overseas, or spy on our government, etc. People expressing a point of view I do not agree with, or which I think harmful to America, are not anti- American. I think this war will be terrible for America; corrosive to our economy, and possibly crippling our foreign policy for decades. But I accept that the opposition doesn't see it that way, and that in their way they are being patriotic as well. I merely wish we didn't have to have the ugly patriots that need to hate people with whom they disagree. That makes me ill, even though it is a valuable part of being an American, that ability to hate people, and express it, pretty much without fear of consequence.
I'm not even really anti-war. I am simply anti stupid wars. Going it alone, pissing off the world, for this cause is, imo, stupid. I thought our war to kick Saddam out of Kuwait made sense. So I'm not really anti-war. |
