Buts..... think about the deal from the Israeli point of view. Israel was willing to give up 96% of the land, billions in aid to the Palestinians, help the Palestinians get their own state, and other economic assistance.

What were the Palestinians going to give Israel, in return, for Israel's significant act of generosity?

All the Palestinians had to do is promise not to kill Jews. That's all. Nothing else.

But, the Palestinian terrorists have been murdering Jews for 60+ years. Israel wanted assurances that the Palestinians would keep their part of the bargain. In other words, Israel wanted defensible borders, until the Palestinians showed that they could live in peace with Israel.

After a year or two of a strong peace, the Palestinians would get the other 4%.
