<<Is Blair the Chamberlain of the 21 century ?>>

Actually, you've got the analogy scrambled. Bush would be Hitler with the rising police state and registration of suspected classes of immigrants. Blair would be representing the Italians - politically useful but otherwise inept and lacking support of the populace.

The crises that started the ball rolling - the burning of the Reichstag by "terrorists" which produced the police state is now the WTC attack. Hitler gained the Chancellory through the back door - put there by two major parties as a compromise candidate. Bush's ascension is also of questionable virtue.

The path of conquest is to remove all those members of the evil axis in the name of justice. (Hitler started with regaining German and German occupied lands - in the name of justice).

At this point the appeaser of old is now the appeasee - Those nations that have spoken out against the war but are probably going to vote for it in the UN because they are swayed by US money and a fear of confronting the US.

No, I don't seriously think that this will play out as badly as WWII. But you do have admit that there are some eery parallels. And I will go further as to distill it into history repeating itself - a weak leader with a messiah complex seizes the power he feels is his "divine" right and uses it to (try to) reshape the world into his image.

So are we sure that we have learned the lessons of history?
