I can be pretty sure what I'm getting is what they really believe to be the truth.

I can see the utility the Roman magistrates might find in that.

If lying is such a problem, why aren't there more prosecutions for perjury?

Re the article:

<<Yet offhand, I can't think of a single evangelical working for a major news organization. >>

Excuse me, but it seems he's taking a big leap with his anecdotal evidence. How would he know how many evangelicals there are? If they were doing their jobs, viewers wouldn't know their religious bent. Sure, you can tell that many news persons are NOT evangelical by the way they react to certain news or the occasional mocking tone, but how would you identify the evangelicals? Surely they wouldn't be saying "praise the Lord" every other sentence. That would be unprofessional. Seems to me that a quality evangelical reporter would be indistinguishable from any other quality reporter. The news is supposed to be secular, isn't it? Sure, evangelicals would bring their values to their work just as everyone else does, but evangelical values aren't all that different from the values of non-evangelicals of integrity. The religion that goes hand and hand with the values may be different and there are some hot button political issues for evangelicals, but the values aren't that different. I got the impression that Kristof was on the verge of proposing an affirmative action program for evangelicals.

P.S. I'm going to check out Benny Hinn. Never heard of him.
