Jim, Due to free speech it seems this forum is as good as any.
Free speech has nothing to do with my argument. Obviously, I can't yank your Internet connection, so all I can do is respond to you the way I see it. You want to treat this forum like your own private venting grounds, be my guest, but with the exception of Carl, you're preaching to the wrong choir.
Re: The idea that these guys are that much smarter than the rest of the people at Intel is a joke. No way should there be such a wide gulf between compensation of execs and say regular engineers.
To some degree, yes, but executives certainly have a lot more responsibility than the engineers. They manage millions, if not billions of budgetary dollars. It is their decision-making that results in the success or the failure of the company. Engineers are problem solvers; good ones may be hard to come by, but they are still found in droves in this industry, especially these days. Good execs, on the other hand, seem to be a rare breed. Therefore, I think it's right to pay them more, as long as they deserve it. Whether or not Intel's executives deserve their level of compensation is another topic for discussion. I think it can be argued either way.
FWIW, though, I also agree with your previous comment:
"How should the executives be compensated? Salary. Perhaps a performance bonus but with a cap." |
