Two schools of thought:

1. Ditto what you said. That's where my money is.

2. The more sure they are we are going, the stronger they
resist. In their mind, this:

- gets rid of the problem
- protects themselves from terrorist attacks
- prevents them from the risks of military action

Weasels either way.

At one point it was discussed that we, the US, would ensure that the Iraqi's honored any agreements they had with Russia. Unfortunatley, we cannot. A new government in Iraq could easily declare that any agreements made by Saddam would be null and void. Moreover, our insistance on such an arrangement could be seen as overly meddlesome when Saddam is gone. Only time will tell.
