Michael,

Thanks for the posts. The stock market reminds me of the Gold Market in the late 70's just before it hit 850/oz - completely irrational (at that time you could get 18% returns on gov't paper with inflation at 9% and falling). I bailed out of that market at 600/oz and missed the last $250. I did not mind because I did manage to pay for my second and third university degrees with the proceeds. This actually turned out to be the best investment I ever made. I bailed out of the stock market last month (tax free munis, gov't short term paper, and investment grade preferreds offer good returns without much risk). I find it amazing that Greenspan say's he does not know why the economy is doing so well. If he looked over at the treasury web site plus a few others he would see that 511 billion of debt was financed with foreign money during 95 & 96. This is real money in and of itself but once leveraged more that explaines the whole thing. Why does something so obvious escape most people. Like your article says ... the end result of this kind of debt is always the same. I would not be surprised if I miss out on the last 20% or so but I have decided that I am not smart enough to find the top. I play around with money I can afford to lose with some shorts and puts (which aren't doing so well). All of my small cap shorts have been hit by short squeezes :-). Good luck investing.
