Thus we have the spectacle of Ted Kennedy and Robert Byrd, who worry not at all about Saddam getting nuclear weapons, now thundering that North Korea is the "more immediate threat." These are doves wearing press-on hawk talons for the TV cameras.


These guys set down daily and say, "OK, what can we oppose the President on today and get some media mileage?" Nothing new, just normal partisan politics. But the world is not as big as it used to be, and the bad guys run their Foreign Policy on the basis of how much they think they are stroking the opposition here. Both Saddam and Kim Jong II are playing them like a violin.
