J-Phone does 5,200 3G in Feb ========== J-Phone Subscriber Base Up 1.2% On Month In Feb Friday March 7, 1:08 am ET TOKYO -(Dow Jones)- Japan Telecom Holdings Co.'s (J.JTC or 9434) J-Phone unit said Friday its cellphone subscriber base rose 1.2% on month to 13.62 million subscribers in February following a 1.0% rise in January. J-Phone is majority-owned by Vodafone Group PLC of the U.K., while Vodafone holds a 66.7% stake in Japan Telecom. The rise indicates that new subscriptions were helped by J-Phone's recently launched "Vodafone Global Standard" service. On-month growth in subscribers had remained below 1.0% for four months in a row before the VGS service was launched Dec. 20. VGS offers third-generation wireless services in Japan and roaming services abroad. There were 5,200 new subscribers to VGS for a total of 9,900. This followed 3, 500 new subscribers in January and 1,200 in December. J-Phone is aiming for one million VGS subscribers by the end of March 2004.
