KDDI Adds 579,400 3G Subscribers In Feb On Shift From 2G

TOKYO -(Dow Jones)- KDDI Corp. (J.KDD or 9433) said Friday it added
579,400 subscribers in February to the third-generation wireless
communications service provided via its "au" cellphones, bringing its 3G
subscriber base to 5.89 million.
The data reflect KDDI's ongoing efforts to move its 2G subscribers to its 3G
service.
KDDI lost 445,000 subscribers from the "CDMAOne" and "PDC" 2G services
offered via its "au" cellphones, as many of these subscribers shifted to KDDI's
3G service.
On a net basis, KDDI had 134,300 "au" subscribers to both its 2G and 3G
services, making an accumulated total of 13.72 million subscribers.
For its "Tu-Ka" mobile phones, KDDI lost 25,700 subscribers, trimming its
accumulated total to 3.80 million people.
Overall, KDDI added a net total of 108,700 "au" and "Tu-Ka" subscribers, lifting
its subscriber base to 17.520 million.
KDDI's "EZweb" mobile Internet service added 184,500 subscribers, for an
accumulated total of 12.13 million.
