Does anyone really believe the 500K number?

I've seen estimates of that magnitude in several sources:

- UN draft at CASI: "Likely Humanitarian Scenarios"
casi.org.uk
The core is an estimate of 100,000 direct war victims and 400,000 killed in the aftermath by epidemics and other turmoil.

- Medact: "Collateral Damage: the health and environmental costs of war on Iraq - Report"
medact.org
Estimate range 50,000-260,000 in a conventional war.

- Russian military analyst Vladimir Slipchenko as posted by E yesterday in #reply-18666519

- Medact's worst-case scenario of Saddam attacking US Forces with WMD and a subsequent nuclear retaliation is close to four million casualties. The "International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War" (IPPNW) distribute this study. ippnw.org
