re: I'm working from memory of history here, but I think that by the early 1930's Germany was already the largest 'active' military power on the Continent.

also from my less than perfect memory, was not hitler not in any position to do anything until after the death of Hindenburg in 1934. So even in the mid 30's it was fairly easy to take care of Hitler.

re: I certainly think you over-estimate the effectiveness of the French forces.
