I am going to depart the subject, too. But I do want to point out that when Jill told you she needed a quiet place to work, you offered to let her live and work in your house for a month while you and Bill were in France.

Oh yes, and you said she could have the use of your car, too.

And that the use of the house and the car were to be free. A gift to her. It's not as though you were looking to deceive her to get some rent out of her.

I feel very bad for Jill. And I feel bad for you, too, that your generous impulse ended so badly for you both.
