The media antics may fool the gullible group of Americans who stay glued to cable news, but not the rest of the world.

Chilean President Ricardo Lagos, whose country has a U.N. Security Council seat, said on Saturday the March 17 deadline for Iraqi disarmament proposed by the United States, Britain and Spain was too short.

In an interview with Chilean radio, Lagos said he told President Bush by telephone on Friday that U.N. weapons inspectors should be given more time and that Chile still held out hope of a U.N. resolution that would gain the support of all members.

``The destruction of those arms could take two, three or four months and Mr. (Hans) Blix should continue working until he obtains the complete destruction of those weapons,'' Lagos said. Blix is the chief U.N. weapons inspector.

The Rhetoric may say disarm, but the actions say "seize the oil fields".
