Dick Morris put it correctly, deep-down Gore didn't want to win. Way deep-down in his subconscious.

If he had, he would have nailed Bush a lot harder and not been afraid of Clinton or Nader as much as he was. He would have gone to Houston and shown America the worst pollution in the country which GW Bush helped create. He would have greased pig wrestled and Holy-rolled with rednecks in Tennessee to win his home state, gone to more military functions, told the right-wing they were full of BS and proven it. He also would have picked Kerry instead of Lieberman.

Instead, he got to be tiresome and stodgy. And not winning all the debates with Bush was outrageous. Lieberman similarly failed against Cheney who was a sitting duck JL let Tricky Dick get away scott free.
