Chris, Iraq is a much a threat to the left as it is to the right. Thus this forum should be politically neutral, except where assesing the threat of Iraq to peace in the middle east and to the world as a whole.
Right now we have a republican President and thus the Democrats and the left/liberals all wring their hands and try to see what political hay they can make out of it.
They are thus acting like sheep, without thought. So do not think us lefties are so foolish as to be co-opted into a traditional D/R battle and say the left does not want to invade Iraq because the right does..

There is no doubt that Iraq would invade and take over the Middle East if UN/USA did not intervene, after all they started that once with Kuwait, and only a fool feels they would have stopped there if the world just gestured wildly and wrung their hands, as Europe did when they had the chance to stop hitler.

So lets say we stand by and let Iraq take over the Middle east, not our turf and they will sell us oil anyway. What next, well, with a unified military system and enormous funds Iraq will develop the full repertoire of weapons of mass destruction. germs/poisons/nukes, you name it, no self respecting dictator leaves home without their WMD. And leave home he will. He will discover that assorted other neighbours wish to be liberated and he will expand his system, all the time getting more economies of scale and more oil/money to play with.
So the choice is where to stop him, not if he will be a problem.....he will be a problem, of that there is zero doubt. I remember reading about the voices against Hitler, and how he was allowed some "lebensraum" history1900s.about.com

Well, looks like that led to 50 million deaths, among them 20 million Russians and almost 10 million Jews, as well as combatants and civilians from many many countries.

So Hitler was tossed a bone or two, and we had "peace in our time" wwnorton.com

Hitler: I don’t want war! All I want is

Peace! Peace! Peace!

(Sings) A little piece of Poland,

A little piece of France,

A little piece of Portugal,

And Austria perchance.

A little slice of Turkey

And all that that entails.

And then a piece of England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales.

– W.C.Sellar and R.J.Yeatman, 1066 and All That.

I am shocked at the French attitude. I think the French just want to make sure they are seen as powerful and valuable, instead of the spent force they are today.

France knows well the lessons of Hitler as he humbled France, who chose surrender over destruction in WW2.
Thus France knows Iraq must be stopped, but wants to be sees as puissant.

Now Mexico? I suspect they will come down on the US side. Right now they are showing how completely independent they are of US influence.

Bush should shut his yap and not make such dumbass comments, all that does it aggravate people and show his flaws.
