That contradicts what has been discussed here about VOD taking priority at MSOs.<<

William -

I believe that it is inevitable that a great deal of the growth for the PVR market will come via set-top boxes provided by the cable companies. I also think it's inevitable that the PVR market will grow tremendously.

TiVo's DirecTV combo box is great, and one of the major reasons I decided to go with satellite instead of cable. But the company apparently has been unable to get a deal to move into the cable space. Or perhaps their contract with DirecTV forbids it. (I'm sure I could find that out easily, but I'm too lazy. I'd rather watch TiVo.)

TiVo's implementation of the PVR is generally considered to be superior to the competition. So the question is whether the sales of standalone TiVo boxes plus the sales of the DirecTiVo boxes will be enough to drive the company's growth going forward. Will the superior, but also more expensive, TiVo service continue to attract customers in the face of competing integrated cable solutions?
