you certainly have a point about saddam. saddam is a menace. whether he is the worst or top 5 or top 10 or whatever is all subject to debate. what isn't is that he IS a nasty nasty man and the world would be a better place without him.
i hope you don't think i'm arguing against that.
and if our plan was to insert some troops and take him, personally, out, i would say go for it, with or without UN sanction.
what i am opposed to are the plans that have been circulated, plans thought would lead to the incineration of who knows how many 10s or 100s of thousands of iraqs whose only crime is having the misfortune of living in the wrong place at the wrong time.
to be clear on this, i'm not only concerned about the iraqs, i'm concerned for myself and for my family, and imo such action, especially without the fig leaf cover of "international" sanction from the UN, will make the world all that much more dangerous for the caucasion, english-speaking likes of me and my family. unlike many north americans, i do regularly venture beyond this continent and i'm telling you, it already feels like i've got a bullseye painted on my forehead. i don't need one painted on my back as well.
turning riyadh into a pit, OTOH, would at least fade that bullseye into dusty rose from its current candyapple red. |
