Foxlette--the American media did not report the story about the plagerized document that Powell relied upon during his UN presentation, except through the back door, (talking heads). The American media has yet to report about the US spying on the UN Security Council, ordinarily a big issue.
Further, when the Iraqi Ambassador presented after the Security Council members had spoken, Powell left the chambers taking with him all of the live televised media which hugged around him to ask questions, thus depriving the American viewership of the balance to hear what the Iraqi ambassador presented to the Council, much of it in rebuttal to Powell.
And the American media is replete with references of Saddam kicking out the weapons inspectors (when Clinton did) and that he gassed his own people (leaving out the Iranian role in those skirmishes).
Indeed, we've been selectively whipped into a fear to support the war. This is the primary reason why Bush doesn't have Blair's problem with respect to being out of tune with nearly all of his people. Manipulation of the American media enables Bush to keep his base and cut into a sliver of the middle, demographics sufficient to win reelection and prosecute, he thinks, the war.
MSNBC is now airing Michael Savage in a show entitled The Savage Nation, this in a bid to boost ratings by being more rightwing than FoxNews.
It's my assertion that the news were getting is selectively marketed, and not pure news meant for all. |
