I believe Friedman is an exceptionally bright individual. But interestingly, he seems truly divided over how he feels about the war. I heard his speech Thursday night (which included the essence of this article) -- and his basic argument, as in this article, is "I think the war is the right thing to do but Bush seems to promoting it for purposes other than the true reasons".

Friedman fails to mention, however, that there IS a security issue at stake, for if we can stem the tide of anti-Americanism in the MidEast, it WILL decrease the need for these people to attack us at home.

C-SPAN has been rerunning his speech and if you get a chance to see it it is worth watching.
