I would disagree. The Tibet stream of Buddism is a 'cult'(I don't know how to properly term it) in China. Zen is the main stream. Beside, unlike the west, religion never had the kind of bonding power as you describe(China considerably more aligned with Tibet than the communist). In 30 years, Tibet would be absorbed or neutralized by the Han population that would out number the Tibetans.
