Does Google have a pripority built database & search engine,
or have they bought off the shelf the hardware and software
and invested amounts of cash unavailable to Silicon Investor?
.
Hard for me to believe that a Microsoft type strangle hold has developed
where only a few available For Sale complete solutions exist,
and the only way to obtain cutting edge technology is to develope it
in house.
.
I'am near clueless on this area, but i think Oracle is a big software producer,
but is there a catch that they only sell "ready to run, turn-key" solutions,
that require no additional cost, of old fashion technology with a new coat
of paint? But to obtain latest & greatest you have to cough up huge amounts
of extra money and buy into service contracts for installation and maintence?
.
I bet many software solutions that run on Linux have been created
by a dozen Ph.D. papers these last 5 years that would blow away what
is now used by small companies buying the low cost available stuff.
.
Since i have no idea the platform Si here uses, i'll guess its Windows,
or a version of Unix. If Unix and a transfer of the data formatted can be
exchanged back & forth to a Linux system, then it seems like a wise
investment to look into it since if it will work the cost will be less than
that required in further years when the database currently grows to
a size requiring the company to either pay up big time, or cease.
.
For sure E.C. (E. Charters) (eyeHub echarters) would be a resource
to investigate this as he has lots of free time waiting for his wild cat
to come home before the cows :o)
