koreaherald.co.kr HANNOVER, Germany - LG Electronics said yesterday that it will unveil a wide array of home networking and digital technologies at the CeBIT 2003, the world's largest IT and telecommunication's trade fair, which is held every March in this northern German city.
CeBIT - an acronym for "Center of Business Information Technology and Telecommunication" - kicks off its eight-day run in Hannover from today until March 19 at the Hannover Exhibition Grounds, an expansive, multi-building convention facility located in the northern German state of Niedersachsen.
LG is set to feature its latest products ranging from home networking and W-CDMA devices, to GSM/GPRS mobile handsets and PDP (plasma display panel) displays at three large-scale pavilions at the fair - the DDM (digital display media) pavilion, the IT pavilion and the Systems pavilion.
The company plans to highlight cutting-edge home networking technology at the DDM pavilion, the largest of the three exhibition halls. A model living room displaying technologies of the future will be one of LG's most elaborate product presentation displays at the CeBIT.
LG, a major handset maker, has plans to emphasize its dual-band handset line at the tradeshow with the unveiling of its latest GSM/GPRS and W-CDMA mobile phones.
Korea's wireless service is based on cdma2000 1x EV-DO technology, but handset manufacturers like LG have also developed GSM/GPRS-compatible models, which is the main mobile standard in European Union countries such as Germany.
The new handset models are equipped with 2.2-inch 260,000-color pixel TFT-LCD (thin-film transistor liquid-crystal display) screens and 300,000-pixel VGA digital cameras. LG's handsets are also capable of delivering multimedia, video-on-demand, MMS (multimedia messaging service) and other high-tech solutions that are available with third-generation (3G) mobile services.
Meanwhile, LG is scheduled to receive the Industrie Forum (iF) Product Design Award at the CeBIT exhibition hall on opening day. LG has three products slated to receive the prestigious design award, which are: the LG-KP6100 cdma2000 1x color-screen handset, the Flatron L2320A 23-inch wide LCD monitor, and the S-087CDR/LS-107 CDR air conditioner.
The CeBIT tradeshow, which is also held in five other cities worldwide throughout the year, is expected to attract about 700,000 visitors in Hannover alone, with 8,000 exhibitors from 62 countries preparing to showcase their latest technologies.
A total of 137 Korean firms are in Hannover this week to join the fair and occupy major exhibitor stages at this year's CeBIT tradeshow.
"CeBIT is a major IT exhibition where a number of visitors and buyers gather together to look into future-oriented technologies," said Kim Won-dae, senior vice president of LGEDG, the Germany-based unit of LG Electronics.
"Since last year's FIFA World Cup, more Europeans and others from abroad are paying attention to Korea's high-tech products. LG expects to boost its brand name and market share in Europe by actively participating in this year's tradeshow," Kim said. |
