SM:

Not an "if" anymore, re American economy. And yes, the Canuckistanian economy will follow as surely as night follows day (we sell a very large fraction of our total GDP to the U.S.). That said, IMHO we are in a bit better shape to weather the coming storm. Govt. debt levels have been coming down for several years now (still high, but improving), Canuck banks have not been as aggressive in the "sub prime" lending area, and Canadian consumers have remained more traditional in their attitudes towards ecccessive debt, so they are not quite as much underwater as their American counterparts. Usually, our economy lags that of the U.S. by 6 months or more, both up and down.

On another subject, I cleared some short positions yesterday and am now back down to my "core positions.

Best, Earlie
