Corning reiterated its first-quarter guidance, including revenue of $700-$730 million and a net loss of $10-$50 million, or 1-4 cents per share, excluding gains on debt repurchases and restructuring charges. A survey of analysts by Thomson First Call is forecasting a loss of 3 cents per share. Corning plans to recognize equity earnings of $10-$20 million from Dow Corning Corp. in the first quarter. The company first issued the guidance on Feb. 7. Chief Financial Officer James B. Flaws said in a speech after the bell on Monday that Corning continues to make "significant progress" on its financial health, and restore profitability in 2003. Shares of Corning fell 26 cents to $5.53 on Monday.
