Do you not believe that if the United States offered to protect France's Iraqi oil interests it would come out in favor of deposing Saddam?

Not really. As I said before, France is not dependent on oil for its energy needs (80% of its energy from nuclear plants) and there it differs widely with the US. If you are going to argue that oil and its control is the only parameter in foreign policy of nations, then know that the US has far more at stake than the US. And you are faced with having to accept that the imminent invasion of Iraq by the US has to do with oil more than anything else.

I know it's hard to know, seeing as Chirac does like to chum with other despots like Mugabe, so, in fact, maybe an oppressive regime satisfies his fancy somehow.

Iraq was no less an oppressive regime when Saddam was buddies with the US during the war with Iran. Are you arguing otherwise?

Besides, try changing the words "France" with "US" and Mugabe with "Saudi Arabia" and/or "Pakistan" and read it aloud. Not fun, right?

How can the CIA tell the difference if the Iraqis make the forgery?

They could try looking at the signatures and comparing them with the previous documents. That is how the forgery was discovered, I believe.

Very had to tell indeed, especially when forger and the real creator are one and the same.

What are you trying to say? That the guy forged his own signature???

Come on...
