We were "constrained" by our policy of Realism you got that one right.

As to your assertion - We could have done it with almost zero incremental cost we don't know that and the conventional wisdom of the day was that Iraq would quickly implode with a defeated Saddam humiliated.

The moral course with regards to despots and genocidal maniacs requires action. Sitting idle and watching a murder you could prevent is a sin - not as bad as the murder itself, but pretty damning.

I always go back to Kosovo and Rwanda on that one. Who blocked (vetoed) UNSC action in Kosovo - Russia. Who had to be dragged kicking and screaming into Kosovo - France. Who actually helped the killers in Rwanda - France. Who blocked UNSC action on Rwanda - to our shame - the USofA.
