I can comment on your observations about Jim McDermott only slightly since I don't know any details but I doubt McDermott would agree that it was in support of Saddam. I think it's important to distinguish between the reasons folk offer for these ventures and our own analysis of the likely consequences.

As for Jimmy Carter, however, if you argue that his op ed piece is in support of Saddam, are you then arguing that all opposition to the Bush administration's Iraq policy supports Saddam? If not, which seems to you to be legitimate opposition and which seems to be in support? Is it possible, in short, in your mind for folk to oppose Bush and not support Saddam?
