The UN did nothing while war was being conducted within Iraq.

The U.N. did what it was supposed to. It provided a forum for international communication. It's not the U.N.s job to be a jingo rubber stamp, it's a forum and it is proving itself to be very effective at bringing attention to all aspects of this problem. That is exactly the right role.

The U.N. doesn't have but a handful of security guards to itself. A different but useful discussion may be whether the U.N. ought to have some real authority and power.
