Embedded Performance and IDT Announce EDB and MAJIC Intelligent Debug Support for New IDT Interprise Processor

Tuesday March 11, 9:05 am ET

MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 11, 2003--Embedded Performance, Inc. (EPI) and IDT(TM) (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.) (Nasdaq:IDTI - News) today announced EPI development tool support for the RC32438 processor, the newest member of the IDT Interprise(TM) family of integrated communications processors.

The IDT RC32438 processor builds on the company's position as the leading provider of integrated processors for managed Layer-2 Ethernet switches, and delivers up to 266 MHz in performance to address the bandwidth-demanding requirements of communications applications within the Enterprise and access market segments, including desktop/workgroup switches, gateways, wireless access points (WAPs) and virtual private network (VPN) equipment. EPI's EDB source level debugger and MAJIC® intelligent EJTAG debug probe, combined with a broad complement of debugger APIs, provides the industry's most comprehensive support for all phases of system development.

Together, the companies demonstrate how an intelligent debug probe complements and extends on-chip debug facilities to provide greater control and visibility of the hardware and software operation, resulting in a faster debug cycle and improving time to market.

"We see an increasing requirement within emerging market segments such as network access equipment and Enterprise switches to partner with companies that provide tools and support for a wide range of development environments, including GNU and embedded Linux," said Phil Bourekas, vice president of the Internetworking Products Division at IDT. "Our relationship with EPI and the development tool support they provide for our RC32438 processor are essential components of the solution we offer our customers."

"We are excited to offer EDB and the MAJIC family of intelligent debug probes to support the IDT Interprise(TM) family of integrated processors," said Claude Chalouhi, EPI VP of worldwide sales. "This is an important addition for the Enterprise networking suppliers in Asia, and the leadership position they are rapidly establishing."

In addition to EDB, the MAJIC Series supports the most popular third-party debug tools, including MontaVista Linux Professional tools, GNU GDB and Wind River Tornado. This allows developers using the IDT processor to take advantage of the intelligence of the MAJIC Series probes while maintaining a familiar user interface.

The MAJIC intelligent debug probe connects to the host-based debuggers using a 10/100Base-T Ethernet or a high-speed serial port. When used in an Ethernet environment, it is ideal for remote debug operations and features fast code download.

In addition to supporting the newer IDT RC32438 device, the EPI EJTAG tools support all the devices within the IDT Interprise(TM) processor family, including the RC32355 and RC32351 processors targeting CPE applications, and the RC32332, RC32333 and RC32334 processors targeting gateway and Ethernet switching applications.

Other features of the MAJIC family include a logic analyzer triggering interface, programmable JTAG clock speeds, support for adaptive clocking technology, and a long list of self-test and hardware test capabilities.
